Civil Engineering Project
ADA Accessible Pedestrian Ramp
City of Fairhope – Fairhope, AL
The City of Fairhope contracted J. Martin Pitts, PE, LLC to design an accessible pedestrian ramp near the Fairhope Municipal Pier, one of the most visited landmarks on the Eastern Shore. The project called for an elevated switchback structure that would carry visitors safely through steep, wooded terrain while meeting ADA requirements for slope, landings, and handrails. Our team designed the structural system, including the steel support framing, foundations, and elevated walkway, to deliver a durable route that blends into the natural landscape rather than overpowering it. The finished ramp gives residents and visitors of all abilities comfortable access to the pier area and stands as a lasting public amenity for the Fairhope community.
Coastal Alabama presents engineering conditions that differ from inland projects: high wind loads, flood zone requirements, and soil composition near the water all affect structural design. J. Martin Pitts, PE LLC applies direct knowledge of these regional conditions, along with a Professional Engineer license held in Alabama, to every civil engineering assignment.
